Alberto Pasino has been a Partner of the Firm since its foundation.
In 1995 he opened the Firm’s Trieste office, which he has managed ever since, while in 2006 he oversaw the start-up of its Shanghai office, where he long resided and with which he still collaborates.
His main areas of practice are maritime and transport law, commercial law, and litigation.
He has vast experience in Court disputes with regard to terminal operator liability, multimodal, sea and land transport, international freight forwarding, recreational boating and procurements.
He obtained his law degree from the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna in 1992. He has been a member of the Trieste Bar Association since 1995, and qualified to represent Clients before the Italian Supreme Court since 2008.
In 2005, he was a member of the committee appointed by the Italian Ministry of Infrastructures and Transportation for the drafting of the Italian Recreational Boating Code.
He holds seminars at university and master degree courses on transport law, maritime law and international commercial law, and has published several articles on those subjects.
He is a member of the Register of Arbitrators of the Venice Chamber of Arbitration and actively participates in several associations. He sits on the Board of Directors of AIDIM (the Italian Maritime Law Association); he is a member of the International Working Group of the Comité Maritime International on the wrongful arrest of ships and is a member of the Editorial Board of the journal Il Diritto Marittimo. He holds the position of President of the Italian National Committee of the Union Internationale des Avocats (UIA), of whose Transport Law Commission he was president until 2023. He is the Friuli-Venezia Giulia territorial representative of Associazione Studi Legali Associati (ASLA) and is the coordinator of its Transport Group.
He is Vice-President of the International Propeller Club – Port of Trieste, which he chaired for nine years, and sits on the Italian National Board of the International Propeller Clubs.
He was the President of the Chamber Music Association (Società dei Concerti) of Trieste from 2017 to 2021. He has been a municipal councillor of the Municipality of Trieste since 2021.

Civil Law – Strategic advice to an industrial consortium on social security contribution liabilities and contracting arrangements
Assistance to an industrial consortium in connection with a member company’s failure to comply with its social security contribution obligations and the resulting suspension of payments by the consortium’s principal client. The engagement included an analysis of the joint and several liability of the consortium and the client, the limits of the client’s right to withhold amounts due under the relevant contracts, the effects of an instalment plan for outstanding social security contributions on the company’s social security compliance certificate (DURC), and the measures available to protect the consortium and its other member companies. These measures included the assumption of the outstanding debt, the withdrawal of work orders, the exclusion of the defaulting member company, and potential recovery and indemnity claims.

Maritime Law – Legal assistance in obtaining authorisation for the controlled scuttling of a vessel to create an artificial reef
Legal assistance in connection with obtaining the administrative authorisations required for the controlled scuttling, in Italian territorial waters, of a fully remediated vessel intended to create an artificial reef combining sustainable diving tourism with scientific research.
The matter is particularly significant as it represents the first controlled scuttling project of this kind in Italy.

Maritime Law – Legal assistance and strategic advice on the regularisation and future commercial operation of a vessel
Assistance to an EU-based shipping company concerning the verification of the continued existence and full operational capacity of the owning company, the assessment of the legal status of a vessel temporarily without registration or flag, and the identification of the steps required to restore its seaworthiness and lawful operation.
The engagement included a comparative assessment of registration under the Italian flag and registration with another EU registry, with particular regard to maritime law, shipowner liability, cabotage, use of the vessel for tourism and training purposes, access to local public services, economic viability, and the vessel’s future commercial development.

International commercial law – Litigation and arbitration in transport matters
Opposition to an injunction and international litigation concerning multimodal transport contracts. Assistance to a Dutch company operating in the multimodal freight transport sector in the opposition to an injunction filed with an Italian court, with coordinated management of the related parallel litigation already pending in the Netherlands.
