Studio Zunarelli contributes to ASLA E-book on the Middle East Crisis: challenges and solutions for transport and tourism

Milan, June 11, 2026 – Studio Zunarelli has contributed its professionals to the e-book by the Working Group on Transport Law of ASLA (Association of Partnership Law Firms – Associazione Studi Legali Associati) entitled “La Crisi del Medio Oriente: criticità e soluzioni per il settore dei trasporti e del turismo” (“The Middle East Crisis: Challenges and Solutions for the Transport and Tourism Sector”), published and available for free download Here

The edition and introduction are curated by Studio Zunarelli Partner, Alberto Pasino, who highlights that the Hormuz blockade violates the freedom of the seas, while reinforcing the trend toward redundant logistic solutions (Middle Corridor, Development Road, IMEC) that mitigate choke point risks and confer upon Italy a baricentric role in European traffic through multimodal transport and short sea shipping.

Giulia Davidoni, Associate of Studio Zunarelli, has examined the crisis’s impact on the tourism sector, focusing on the legal qualification of the Middle East crisis as an unpredictable and extraordinary circumstance under Directive (EU) 2015/2302 on tour package contracts, in light of the Court of Justice of the European Union jurisprudence. The contribution analyzes the effects of the crisis as a supervening event capable of affecting relationships between tourism operators, carriers, and customers.

The e-book provides a practical overview on:

  • Geopolitical energy framework and EU responses (AccelerateEU, e-fuel)
  • Maritime operational impacts (rerouting, multimodal transport, demurrage, disruption costs)
  • Maritime war risks (CONWARTIME/VOYWAR), force majeure, frustration, laytime, and carrier liability
  • Insurance implications for cargo, hull, P&I, and disruption coverage
  • Air transport (Reg. 261/2004, extraordinary circumstances, rebooking)
  • Tourism (tour packages, operator-carrier-customer relationships)

Studio Zunarelli reaffirms its commitment to producing high-quality legal material on issues of international relevance, highlighting the role of its professionals within legal networks such as ASLA.
