Alberto Pasino will be one of the speakers of the 61\u00b0 UIA World Congress that will bring together in Canada over one thousand lawyers from more than seventy countries, at the Westin Harbour Castle Toronto Hotel from 27 to 30 October.<\/p>\n
He will take part in the Private International Law Commission\u2019s Seminar \u201cContractual or Non-Contractual, That Is the Question!<\/em>\u201d that will be held on 28 October, starting at 9.00 a.m..<\/p>\n The distinction between contractual and non-contractual obligations gives rise to many critical issues in Private International Law. On this subject there are some circumstances, such as for example pre-contractual liability, that are considered in different ways by national substantive laws or judicial decisions. In these cases, it is often the question whether claims arise in contract or tort, the consequences in Private International Law are relevant (e.g.: determination of applicable law and jurisdiction; law to be applied in order to assess whether an obligation is contractual or not). The speakers will discuss the recent developments regarding those crucial points both from a domestic and a cross-border perspective, with particular reference to the current trends concerning principles set forth on this subject by national and international Courts.<\/p>\n Alberto Pasino\u2019s presentation will analyze the issue of qualification.<\/p>\n On 30 October the Transport Law Commission, together with the Insurance Law and Litigation Commissions, will hold the Seminar \u00a0\u201cLitigating Catastrophies: Handling High-Stakes Litigation – Disasters over Air, Land and Sea<\/em>\u201d. Speakers will discuss the logistics of handling high-stakes cases with massive loss of life and\/or property. Some of the biggest transportation cases in recent history will be analysed.
