Between 25 and 29 October 2023 the 67th edition of the World Congress of the Union Internationale des Avocats will be held in Rome, Italy. Participants will be able to attend a series of discussions on topical subjects covering two main themes: “Freedom of Movement, Migration and Human Rights” and “Food, Environment and Energy Challenges”.
Alberto Pasino, together with Mariaelena Giorcelli and Christoph Oertel, will chair the joint session organized by the International Sale of Goods, the Contract Law and the Transport Law Commissions focusing on the impact of time and time periods on international contracts of sale of goods and contracts of carriage.
The joint session, which will take place on 27 October, starting at 14.30 (CET), will focus on the notion of time in relation to commercial contracts, with a strategic, pragmatic and comparative approach. Time periods can affect the way parties negotiate a contract, and timely performance can be “of the essence” or “at large”. After a contract has been made, a delay can occur and the question can then be whether it is reasonable or inexcusable. Finally, limitation periods define when claims become time-barred.
The debate will involve highly qualified practitioners from different jurisdictions who will explore the various situations in which time and time periods become relevant for a lawyer’s practice. The session will be organized around a practical case and legal experts will share insights of their work and so generate valuable comparative learnings for international practitioners.
